Udupi: Beedi workers seize Beedi Company; demand works in complete full week

Udupi; Jan 28: Under the leadership of Udupi district Beedi workers Federation, hundreds of Beedi workers staged a protest by seizing the Bharath Beedi Company on Jan 27, Monday demanding works in complete full week.

After protesting in front of the office, workers stormed into the office and resorted to strike. They shouted slogans against the owner of the company and insisted for the immediate implementation of their demands. They also alleged that in recent days, more than half of the works has also been reduced even for permanent workers.

Similarly, striking workers also alleged that Bharath Beedi Company by manufacturing Beedis from neighboring state and marketing through Udupi branch. Immediately permanent workers should be given works throughout the weeks or else compensation should be given for the days lost as per the law and also demanded for the compensation for the days already had been reduced.

 Only after getting the assurance from the company authorities that the decision will be taken in the meeting, which will be convened by inviting all the depots on Jan 29 to discuss about the issue, the strike has been withdrawn but warned the company that in case demands are not met, the programme of seizure of the company will be taken once again on Feb 11.

Mahabala Vadera Hobali, president of the federation, secretary K.Laxman, CITU leaders like Balakrishna Shetty, Vishwanatha Rai, Dogu Suvarna, Balkis Banu, Sugandhi, Laxmi, Sujatha Shetty and among others were present.
