Vexed with the problem of drinking water scarcity, tribal people of Botimeedi Tanda, tribal hamlet in Kusumanchi mandal, staged a demonstration with empty vessels in front of the Collectorate here on Monday to press for immediate solution to the drinking water problem faced by them.
Protesters mostly comprising tribal women displayed empty vessels during the demonstration symbolising the gravity of the drinking water problem plaguing their tribal hamlet for a long.
Speaking at the demonstration, Badavath Lalu of the Botimeedi Tanda deplored that they were forced to fetch water from the borewell at Gangabanda Tanda as all the borewells in their hamlet had gone dry.
“We are compelled to hire autorickshaws to bring drinking water in drums from the Palair reservoir situated about 4 km away during occasions like festivals,” he said.
Stating that their consistent pleas for a drinking water scheme had fallen on deaf ears, he lamented that they were reeling under acute drinking water problem even before the onset of summer due to the indifference of the elected representatives and the officials concerned. Hussian, Raghu and others spoke.
Later, a delegation of the tribal people met the officials concerned at the Collectorate and apprised them of their drinking water woes.
