Udupi: All college students’ association stage protest demanding subdivision

Udupi; Jan 26: All college students ’ unions staged a protest in Udupi district in front of the clock tower near service bus stand, demanding a Mangalore University’s sub-centre in Udupi district also similar to the one in Kodagu district, wherein a separate sub-centre of University has been provided.

Though students have been protesting in this regard since 2010, their demands have not been met yet. If the subdivision of Mangalore University is opened in the Udupi city, it would help lot many poor students. Now even for small works, we need to travel 135 km, which is inevitable. Though, it is not in Udupi, Mangalore University and government should try to take suitable measure to open sub-centre of University along with proposed post-graduation University in Belapu, said Dinakara Shetty, state president of all college student’s association.

Besides, a memorandum demanding the re-evaluation of answer papers, to reduce the fee structure and by making amendments in semester’s carry-over system, students, those who have failed in 5th semester should be given an opportunity to write their examinations in sixth semester, has been submitted to Pramodh Madhwaraj, legislator and Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said student leaders.

Further they said that they received a good response for today’s protest. Protest was also observed in Kundapur district’s colleges and Karkala colleges.

Sangha’s working committee’s president Suraj Indrali, former president Dheeraj Shetty, vice president Nishanth, Ramanji were present.
