Kundapur; Jan 24: Deepak Kumar Shetty, president of district Raitha Sangha alleged that district level agricultural fair, which will be held on Jan 25 and 26th, is politician’s election gimmick.
Speaking in the press conference, held on Jan 23,Thursday,he said that media and news papers has already advertised about the Udupi district level agricultural fair,which will be held in Kundapur taluk’s Koteshwara within couple of days. But the government is spending millions of rupees for holding this agricultural festival, is it for farmers or authoties?.This curiosity to know is plaguing amongst real and small farmers, he said.
He further alleged that ever since this programme was organized, concerned departmental authorities have exhibited their irresponsibility by designing the programmes unscientifically without informing anyone and entering the names of different committees in the agricultural festival’s invitation. At least, even after printing the invitations, they didn’t feel like doing so.
Besides, work of informing or extending invitations to the number of farmers in rural areas has not taken place yet. This highlights the lack of interest, lethargy of agricultural authorities and government and testimony for not making any publicity about the agricultural festival, being, agriculture is the backbone of the country. Authorities and departments without performing their duties properly, holding such a large scale district level agricultural festival by polling millions of government’s money is just a eye-wash, pretention in front of the representatives, which was supposed to held from farmers and for farmers sake. There is no arrangement in this agricultural festival for the message of district farmer’s development. It is sad to know that none of the activities have been taken place in this regard. The festival, which is being organizing without being informed to ordinary farmers is useless, he lamented.
Small farmers useless:
When we look at the pre-preparation for district level agricultural festival, which is being conducted in the name of farmers, there is no doubt that it is of no use for rural area farmers. Now only two days are left but none of the rural areas farmers received invitation so far. Now the question is, whether this type of agricultural festival is needed?.
Besides, it is clear from the district’s agricultural festival that the departments and government, which is supposed to respond to the small and smallest problems of the district farmers, not even bothered to talk about implementing any projects for farmers.
The district farmers have expressed their dissatisfaction for not recognizing the real achievements of the district farmers either by the government or by the departments concerned. The Udupi district farmer’s Sangha, fiercely condemn the agricultural festival, which is being organized even without informing Udupi district farmer’s Sangha that has been struggling on behalf of the farmers. The Udupi district farmer’s association will stage a protest against the injustice inflicted on farmers by displaying black flags on festival day, he said.
