Udupi: Interest towards mother tongue dwindling amongst Konkans-Kasargod Chinna

Udupi; Jan 21: Inaugurating the ‘Ghara Gharanthu Konkani’ programme held on Jan 19, Sunday in Udupi district panchayat president and Bantakall Rajapura Saraswat Brahmin’s Sangha president B.Upendra Nayak’s residence Manipal Badagabettu Anugraha, Kasargod Chinna, former president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy said in his speech that Konkani languages is one of the richest mother tongue spoken amongst most of the Hindu, Christ and Muslims communities.

But he regretted that now due to the influence of globalization, modern technology and internet Medias, interest towards mother tongue is receding amongst young generation and Konkani speaking people.

He further said that now for the last eight months no activities has been taken place in Konkani Sahitya Academy and is under slumber for want of leaders, he added. Even then, it is a tragedy that nobody has the courage to raise voice about this in such a big Konkani community.

Saralebettu Gopalakrishna Nayak, editor of Saraswat Sandesh magazine has presided over the function.Udupi town development  department’s executive officer Ramananda Nayak, district panchayat former member Gerald Fernandez, Rajapura Saraswat Mahila Vibhag’s president Suma Nayak,Bantakallu Shree Durgaparameshwari temple’s committee president Shashidhara Wagle,Mangalore MESCOM general manager Sadhashiva Prabhu were present.Kusuma Krishnamurthy recited Konkani songs,Vaishyavani Sheshagiri Nayak read the poems.Upendra Nayak, master of the house welcomed,Anantharama Bhat proposed vote of thanks  and B.Pundalika Marathe hosted the programme.
