Udupi; Jan 16: On the occasion of Kaaniyoor Shree’s Paryaya procession, which will be held on Jan 18, Saturday early morning, most of the Swamijis, including Kaaniyoor Shree of the Math, by breaking the age old tradition of carrying the palanquin by men, have supported the decision of Pejavar Shree, not to sit in the palanquin carried by men. But Shirur Math’s Shree Laxmivara Tirtha, has decided a different stand in this regard.
As decided by Pejavar Math’s senior Swamiji Shree Vishvesha Tirtha, most of the Swamjis of Astamata, for the first time have decided to come by palanquin placed in moving vehicle. But Shirur Shree has said in his statement that he will come by walk.
Addressing media personnel on Jan 16, Thursday in Shirur Math, Shirur Shree said in his address that though he was not in favour of palanquin carried by men, it was being carried out as a tradition in the 800 years of Paryaya history. Somebody might get disappointed, if the practice is being stopped abruptly, he said.
He further said that he will support the idea of all the Swamijis coming in one vehicle during the time of procession. But it is not convincing ,everybody to come in separate palanquin carrying separate tableau, Therefore without violating the decision of senior Pejavar Shree,he has decided to come by walk along with the procession, he said.
