Mangalore autorickshaw fares to go up on Wednesday

11MN_AUTOWALLA_1717295fAutorickshaw fares in the city will go up on January 15. The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) increased the minimum fare per 1.5 km distance from Rs. 20 to Rs. 25. The subsequent fare per km distance has been increased from Rs. 13 to Rs. 14, an official release said. The drivers could carry three passengers at this fare.

The waiting charge for the first 15 minutes would be free. It would be 25 per cent of the travel fare for waiting for the next 45 minutes.

There would be no luggage charge up to 20 kg weight. For every additional weight of 20 kg, the passenger will have to pay Rs. 2. The drivers could collect one-and-half of meter reading between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The RTA in an order directed the drivers to set their meters to the revised fares.

The unions of drivers at a meeting of the authority here on Tuesday demanded the minimum fare to be fixed at Rs. 30 and the subsequent fare at Rs. 20. They demanded the increase in fare after the government increased the price of auto LPG by Rs. 11.60 a litre from this month. The auto LPG in the city is now priced at Rs. 62.

At the meeting, president of Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi G. Hanumantha Kamath urged the RTA not to increase the minimum fare. He had said that the subsequent fare per kilometre could be increased by Rs. 2 to make it Rs. 15.
