Kundapur; Jan 07: Amid, when people were tottering due to continuous naxal and police combing operation since several years in Amaasebail, Macchattu, Thombattu and in rural regions, wild animals started migrating towards city. According to the locals, for this apart from Naxal-combing, announcement of the forests in the surrounding region as’Abhayaranya’ (fearless), is also the reason for this, it said.
According to the sources, the places like Macchattu, Thomabattu, which is sticking to the slope of western Ghat region are affected with wild animal’s nuisance. Until recently the ANF and the naxals, who were engaged in combing operations, have now started entering forests. This may be direct impact of the ANF and naxals entering inside the forests, the locals said.
Confused village due to wild elephant attack:
Since several months, one leopard started coming at night time at the door steps of the houses in Thombattu region and took around more than 15 dogs. Besides, more than four calves have been taken by leopard. Now behind leopard, lonely tusker is started coming from forest. The lonely tusker has inaugurated by attacking the garden and paddy fields of Kundapur taluk’s Thombattu Bhatrapalu Sheena Poojary. The lonely tusker, which attacked, also damaged the compound wall of their lands, which was built for the safety by spending more than lacs in rupees by pushing and looted the coconut tree, areca nut tree, banana plants. Elephants have destroyed more than one acre of paddy fields have been destroyed by the elephant running in the fields here and there.
Negligence of Forest officer:
Though the continuous attack of leopard is being taking place since several months, no action has been taken either to catch the leopard or in the interest of safety of the villagers by the forest department officers. Besides, elephant attack, which took place on Jan 03, Friday was also not taken seriously by the forest department. But if you see all the incidents of everywhere, the elephant which attack once, will come again after one month, this is quite obvious. One tusker from Agumbe came after losing its way.
The locals alleged that when the matter is being informed to forest officials, they are rudely telling that there is no need of getting panicked, as the animals which attacked once, will return back to the forest.
