Karkala; Jan 05: News along with related pictures about opposing inferior quality of concrete road works was published by Gulf Kannadiga reporter on December 05.But an incident of receiving threatening call by some miscreants from Gulf through internet to Gulfkannadiga journalist was reported, opposing the report.
It is said that a man from abroad had called N.Krishna, reporter of Gulfkannadiga for Karkala region on Jan 03, Friday at around 7.39 pm in the night from +671 number and threatened him by saying that, what Krishna, you are writing in GulfKannadiga too much about inferior quality of concrete works in Karkala, are you not interested to live? After that he disconnected the line. Immediately when Krishna called that number, it was confirmed that it was an internet call. Under state government’s ‘Namma Grama, Namma road’programme concretization works of Kaduhole-Andar connecting road in 2.91 km distance at the cost of Rs 1.49 crore was undertaken by the contractors.
But in the wake of public’s resentment about the poor quality of the works, Gulf-Kannadiga along with other Medias published this news in their respective website. Opposing inferior quality of road works, BJP activists staged a protest and submitted a memorandum in this regard to tahsildar. Congress in its statement accused BJP of creating a conspiracy to get an advantage from this episode. No political party is lagging behind to get an advantage from incidents like this, by poking their nose. But fact is that road work on this stretch is of very poor quality, it said.
In view of reaching overseas Kannadigas in lakhs, Gulf-Kannadiga is the only one website, which gives up-to-date, fresh news in objectiveness with sincereity,dignity and in conformity within the jurisdiction of freedom of expression from the Karnataka Dakshina Kannada coastal region.
Such a responsible website, when the facts are being highlighted in objectivity, how far it is correct to bring hurdles to freedom of expression, when it is being reflected in wrong way. In case, the stand on quality of the concrete works to be confirmed,justified,they have to come directly to the Media to give the statement. Everybody has got the freedom of express their voices in Media. But low standard work of threatening the reporter by some vested miscreants, who highlighted the facts, honestly, sincerely and in conformity within the jurisdiction of freedom of expression and in objectivity, is really a shameful act.
After considering this threatening call seriously and discussing with district press journalists association, it has been decided to lodge a complaint to district police commissioner. Besides police department also should create an atmosphere for press journalists to report the news without any fear.
