Udupi: ‘Udupi Festival’ which swallowed Municipality’s transactions again

Udupi;Jan 02: In the last   General body meeting of Udupi City Municipal Council,  members of opposition by expressing their  opposition  for ‘ Udupi Festival’ had walked out of the meeting, again today in the meeting, in the wake of provoking on the same subject, accusation and counter accusations were exchanged.

In the meeting, this was presided over by CMC president Yuvaraj, Opposition leader Dr.M.R.Pai, questioned that when there was no relationship between Udupi city municipal corporation and Udupi Festival, whether the members of Udupi Festival committee obtained the license to hold the festival and for the festival banner from Municipal corporation ?

Replying to this question, CMC commissioner Shreekanth Rao said that NOC is being given from municipal corporation council to organize the festival. License for holding festival has been obtained from the district administration office by the NCNs. Thereafter, opposition members created a commotion in the meeting in connection with banner. Enraged by this, president, legislators and members of ruling party have resorted for an attack of war of words against the members of opposition members.

Hand-cart nuisance:

Due to the increased number of hand-carts in the city, movement of pedestrians and vehicle traffic has become difficult. In this connection CMC has taken no action since two months. But Rs 20 is being collected daily from the illegal hand-cart puller.Dr.M.R. Pai alleged that two months have been passed since the function of Nittoor’s Refinery unit stopped.

The clear indication has already been given to authorities to clear the hand-cart nuisance from the road. Some of the shops in city bus stand are running without proper license. This facility was given by previous Municipal Corporation only. Appropriate action will be taken against this, said president.

Kudsemp-2, implementation soon: Pramodh Madhwaraj

In the Kudsemp-2, for the drainage and water supply in the city Rs 85 crore grant has been approved by the cabinet and for the final approval, two more process are

 Pending, once it is done, immediately, implementation process will take place, informed legislator Pramodh Madhwaraj in the meeting.

Consultation with regard to this programme will be held with concerned department authorities. In this regard, survey has to be conducted. There were many lapses in the earlier sewerage system. That has to be rectified. At the same time, decision need to be taken, whether to bring water from Varahi or to undertake Suvarna-3 phase project, he said.
