MANGALORE: While Dhoom 3 the movie has got the cash registers ringing, its game version, developed in Udupi, is making waves too.
The mobile app ‘Dhoom: 3 The Game’ has crossed five million downloads across all platforms in less than seven weeks of its launch on November 19. The 3D racing game is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 platforms, and on Nokia feature phones. The game was launched by actors Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif at Yash Raj Films Studios, Mumbai.
Eighteen persons developed the game over six months for Robosoft Technologies, which placed Udupi on the global IT map.
Game studios have been making games capitalizing on the popularity of films, which have a wider reach. 99Games Online has signed an agreement with Yash Raj Films Private Ltd to develop a series of games based on the popular movie franchise.
Dhoom: 3 The Game has an action-packed chase on super bikes through the streets of Chicago, with the main characters reprising the roles played by the lead actors in the movie. To win, players have to overcome heavy traffic, dodge obstacles, collect coins, achieve the maximum score and go up the levels.
Shilpa Bhat, senior producer of 99Games Online, said: “The Dhoom franchise had set high production quality standards. We are happy to develop a game with similar production standards for a global audience.”
Gururaj Bhat, senior software architect at Robosoft Technologies, said: “With thousands of games being released every day, it becomes tough for any game to stand out in this crowded market. The performance of Dhoom: 3 The Game proves it can be done.”
The character played by Aamir Khan needs to dodge the crime-fighting duo of ACP Jai Dixit and Ali, played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra in the movie.
