Udupi: PDO’s co-operation is essential for the construction of ‘Grama Swarajya, Rama Rajya’-minister Sorake

Udupi; Dec 24: After inaugurating the job related foundation of the training programme for 26 newly appointed panchayat development officer (PDO) in Ambalpady’s Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala rural developmental programme auditorium, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said in his address that as wished by Mahatma Gandhi, for the construction of ‘Grama Swarajay, Rama Rajya’ panchayat development officer’s (PDO) co-operation is essential. Duty of the panchayat development officers (PDO) is the most important and challenging. The responsibility of the PDO’s is to deliver the all the projects implemented by the government, to work as link between and rural population and government and works to be carried out as per the expectation of the rural population.

He further said that 38 to 40 % of the rural population living in urban areas due to lack of facilities in villages. Due to this, population in cities is increasing. Therefore in order to provide necessary infrastructure in the rural areas and for the all-round development of the villages, PDOs must take active interest in discharging their duties, he said.

The government has given priority to the development of the rural development and panchayat department. Now the implementation of department’s new programme, release of more grants and filling of vacant vacancies would be done, he added

Legislator Pramodh Madhwaraj said in his speech that when PDOs are working under extreme pressure, they have to ensure that there should not be any violation of the law, patiently they have to take a decision as per the convenience of the rural population while performing their duties and any deficiency and faults are observed in the implementation of the law, asked to suggest if any corrections, amendments be needed. District panchayat president Upendra Nayak spoke on the occasion.

Out of 31 PDOs appointed for Udupi district, 15 PDOs are from Udupi district and remaining PDOs are from different parts of the district arrived. Among these 8 are women PDOs.5 PDOs have not attended the duty due to various reasons. For the 26 PDOs, who have attended the duty will be given 3 months of professional foundation training and after the training period is over they will be assigned in Panchayats, said district panchayat’s CEO Prabhakara Sharma
