Kasargod, Dec 18: The District Sessions Court has sentenced a man hailing from Davangere to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his five year old niece. The Court has also slapped a penalty of Rs 2000 on the man.
The convict is Maruthi (40) who though is from Davangere resided in a rented house at Kanhangad. The incident had taken place on April 17, 2013.
The little girl who fell sick after the brutal act was admitted to Kanhangad District Hospital where the doctors confirmed rape upon the medical examination of the girl.
A complaint was subsequently lodged in Hosadurga police station and the accused was arrested on April 29.
The court had heard a total of 16 witnesses in this case.
