Punith, a minor accused in Homestay attack case, released on bail

Mangalore, April 11: Mangalore additional and sessions Court has granted a bail to Punith, aged 17, who was accused in homestay attack case on the ground that he is still a minor as per the law of land.

As per Punith’s SSLC certificate submitted by his parents, his birth date recorded as 25.09.1995, accordingly he is supposed to be a juvenile and should have been tried in Juvenile justice Board.

 According to Asha Nayak, Chairperson of CWC, lodging of Punith along with adults under trials is a pure violation of civil rights and she added parents of punith approached the CWC a month ago and letter written by his younger sister was forwarded to the District and Session Judge.

After checking the documentary proof thoroughly by the court, his bail plea has been considered and granted a bail.

She also vouched the authenticity of Puneeth’s SSLC certificate and subsequently filed an application for bail. She also accused police for not checking the details of Punith in depth before imprisoning Punith.
