Union govt incentive for gram panchayats in Karavali

MANGALORE: The Union ministry of panchayatiraj has released incentive grants under the Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS) for 2012-13 to seven gram panchayats in Karnataka, which are adjudged as the best panchayats.

An incentive of Rs 40 lakh has been awarded to Udupi zilla panchayat, which bagged the best zilla panchayat award. Karkala and Shikaripura taluk panchayats have been awarded Rs 20 lakh each. GP of Maravanthe in Udupi, Melinabesige in Shimoga, Muttuga in Belgaum and Kodambala in Bidar have been awarded Rs 14 lakh each for bagging the best gram panchayat awards under the scheme.

The payment will be released through the secretary, rural development and panchayati raj and chief gram swaraj project and the same will be handed over to the respective award winning panchayats, stated CV Sarada, under secretary to the government of India.
