Mangalore, Nov 19: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee celebrates former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s 96th birth anniversary at the party office here on Sunday.
Floral honour was paid to the portrait of late Mrs Gandhi by Congress leaders such as Ivan D’Souza, Ibrahim Kodijal, B A Moidin Bava, Mamatha Gatty and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim Kodijal said that now the women’s get work in local administrative means it is all because of Indira Gandhi. She would be forever remembered for her welfare programmes and land reforms she implemented during her tenure for the benefit of the poor and the landless.
KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza said that Indira Gandhi was always remembered as a strong and powerful woman. Due to nationalisation of banks and the 20-point programme she implemented during her rule, thousands of poor families were able to lead a life of dignity. In the present situation, all the party workers and youth should be inspired by Indira Gandhi to work towards the goal of bringing the party back to power, he said.
Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava, former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty, former mayor Shashidhar Heggade, Hilda Alva, H.J. Ahraf, vice president B.H. Khadar, Appi, Mamamtha Gatty, Kripa Alwa and other congress leaders were present.
