Udupi: DC office receives applications for grant-in-aid from areca nut rotten disease affected farmers-says M.T.Reju, DC

Udupi; Nov 05: M.T.Reju, DC said in his release that due to heavy rains and inconsistent weather this year, one of the horticultural crops, areca nut crops suffered heavy losses due to rotten disease.

In order to compensate the farmers, who have incurred more than 50% of the damage, government has released Rs 3 crore to give compensation input subsidy of Rs 12,000 per hectare to Udupi district in its second instalment, for the farmers, who have been affected by rotten disease, he said.

Therefore, government has released grant-in-aid for the farmers, who have been severely hit by areca nut rotten disease due to this year’s heavy rains and variation in climatic condition.

The respective tahsildar office has already taken a measure for the payment of the compensation in put subsidy after receiving the certified request letter along with all the related documents stating the details of the area affected and loss incurred from the concerned horticulture department, through village accountant, he said.

He also informed that those affected farmers, who have not yet received the compensation, can submit their request letter duly certified by the horticultural department along with related documents stating the details of the  area affected and loss incurred at their respective tahsildar’s office before Nov,10th,he announced in his release.
