Mangalore, April 4: Annoyed and irked by the frequent load-shedding and the arrogant attitude of MESCOM officials, the “Karnataka Rajya Raith Sangha” (KRRS) and” Hasiru Sene” threatened to Gherao the MESCOM managing director’s Office on Monday the 8th April’13 morning at 10.30 A.M.
Speaking to the media persons at Press meet held in City’s Pathrika Bhavan, Vijaya Hegde-KRRS State Vice president said that MESCOM had resorted to irregular/meaningless power cuts.This will have a major impact on famers and general public in general and students community in particular.
Farmers and rural people are the worst affected due to frequent interruption in the supply of power.
He resented that while electricity generated from UPCL, was dispatched to Bangalore and Hasan.It was the people of twin districts Udipi and Dakshina Kannada had to face problems due to lack of power and pollution. He accused MESCOM officials of being arrogant as they forcibly entered the houses of farmers on the pretext of checking illegal connections.
The Officials disconnected connection to farmers for no apparent reasons, he alleged. This protest is also against Karnataka Electricity Regulation Commission (KERC), which has been hiking power tariff once in three months.
The protest, to be supported by farmers, will demand the withdrawal of cases filed against farmers and dropping the proposed thermal power project at Niddodi and other related demands.
