Udupi; Oct 30: Addressing the symposium about Gandhi and non-violence hosted by department of information on Oct 30, Wednesday in Hiriadka prison, a veteran Gandhian Namadeva Shenoy said in his speech that the country which preached Shanti Mantra is India, India is the place where many Mahatmas (great souls) were born and became renowned since ancient period and now the man who conveyed the message of non-violence to whole world has become contemporary, said Namadeva shenoy.
He further said that Non-violence means Satyapatha and there is no failure for this. The living example for this is Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave.Evolution is only through non-violence and through violence destruction. Today the whole world is following the principles of Gandhi and adopting syllabus about Gandhi in schools and colleges but Gandhi is being forgotten by us, he said
Recalling the days that he spent in Bellary Jail, freedom, he explained about the days of association with Gandhi and companionship with Vinobha Bhave.By violence, peace and prosperity cannot be possible.
He gave a lesson on health to prisoners and explained about the health Mudras.He made them to sing Sarvodaya Padhyavali.
Inaugurating the symposium, prison superintendent Soumya said that the lack of wisdom and anger in a fraction of time prompt us to commit crimes, she said.
Information official Rohini welcomed the gathering and spoke on the occasion comprehensively. Artist Ganesh Gangolli apart from reciting prayer, he also compered the programme along with proposing vote of thanks.
