Mangalore, April 2: The Mangalore police commissionerate in conjunction with Dakshina Kannada district police and KSRP observed ‘Police Flag Day’ on Tuesday the 2nd April at police grounds.

The function was presided over by Pratap Reddy-IGP (Western Range) and former DYSP Vishwanath Pundit has consented to be the chief guest on the occasion.

Police flags were released by Vishwanath Pundit and were sold to the members present. Amount collected by this way will be utilized for the welfare of the police personnel.

61 police retired personnel have been honoured on this occasion by Pratap Reddy-IGP, Manish Karbikar and by other distinguished personalities.

Speaking on the occasion, Vishwanath commended the efforts of the organizers for recognizing the service of retired police personnel by honouring them. He further said he has ever seen and this is the first time that he has seen such kind of honour to be given to retired officials in whole 31 years of his service. Under the normal condition retired people are either ignored or not given an appropriate recognition. But in our district it is unique, he said.

He further said that for the healthy growth of Department, every policeman must adhere to the principle of “Humanity” a sign of important quality. In order to accomplish a given task effectively every official must keep their mind and body healthy, he quipped. Everyone must focus on achieving what is constructive and positive, he emphasized.

He said the problem with some of our police personnel is that they are not aware of certain laws, which hinder them in accomplishing their given tasks. Any situation can be handled easily provided one is thorough in law.

He also appealed to the higher officials to respond quickly to address the complaint whether it is small or big in nature submitted by their subordinates, keeping political influence at bay. He asked the higher officials to study the case from the grass root level and investigate thoroughly without any prejudice to deliver transparency in our department to the general public. He asked the public to pledge their support to perform their duties in a better way.
