Beltangady, Oct 15: Sowjanya’s parents and Hindu leader Mahesh Thimarodi tried to defame our family and Dharmasthala Kshetra by attending a interview in a news channel, said, Dhamasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Hegde on Tuesday October 15.
Addressing a press meet at Vasanth Maha Dharmasthala regarding to the Soujanya’s death case, Hegde said, we are not involved in the murder of Sowjanya. None of our family members are involved in it and also we have not protected any suspect. We have no objections for the arrest of the guilty,” Dr Hegde said.
He further said that Sowjanya is a girl of our village. We too are hurt over her death. I tried to get insurance claim for the family and asked for post-mortem report from Jagadish Gowda, but he has not responded since. Now the college is being blamed for non-cooperation. College teachers and students have protested in the case but the family has accused the college for being ‘non-cooperative’, he said.
Last year October 9, when Sowjanya was found raped and killed, her parents came to me. I directly called the then Home minister to take stringent action against the culprits. I had even informed the then District Minister In-charge C T Ravi and requested him to hand over the case to COD Hegde said.
Adding to that Hegde said his nephew Nischal Jain against whom allegations have been made, was in US for higher education when the incident took place. We have the passport, visa and other documents. I will file a complaint against Sowjanya’s family for defaming my nephew he said.
By defaming the Kshethra, the Kshethra has not lost its identity. The allegations made by some people in the TV interview were far from truth. Dr Heggade urged the devotees to be calm.
The devotees and the Beltangady Taluk Hitaraksana Vedike will hold a conference at Ratnaverma Heggade grounds on October 16 at 3 p.m regarding to the Soujanya’s death case.

Harshendra should be hanged, this is not about family “pride”, this bast ard should be caught and punished now. We know there are number of so called “rich kids” are doing like this, they should be beaten to death then and there!
