Science experiment by students Lead to Boy’s Eye Injury

Mangalore, Sep 21: A group of curious students allegedly stole sodium from the school laboratory and tried to do a science-related ‘experiment’ in the campus, resulted in an eye injury.

 The incident took place in St Rita Higher Primary School, Jeppu. The boy who damaged his eye was Amogh (12), son of Ashok and Asha.

The incident took place on September 16 and he was later admitted to a private hospital in the city. The boy has now recovered from his injuries.

Two students had lifted a small amount of a chemical, brought it with them. During lunch break, they called Amogh, student of VII standard, to do an experiment near the school toilet. Then, they kept sodium on floor and asked him to pour water on it. Soon as he poured water, due to the reaction, his right eye was damaged.

Amogh has now recovered from the injury and the doctor has advised him two weeks of rest. Since the school took care of the entire expenses and care the parents did not give complaint.
