Mangalore, March 29: Speaking to the media persons at press meet held at Pathrika Bhavan on Thursday the March 28th, Sridhar Gowda -president of Endo Virodhi Horata Samiti of Kokkada said that all the political parties are approaching everybody’s house during election time to beg their vote with so many false assurances but once they won, they never turn back their back again for addressing the promises they have made. It is very unfortunate.
He has strongly urged all the political parties to incorporate welfare packages for endo sulfan victims in their election manifestos and see that these packages must reaches endosulfan sufferers without any pilferation in between as soon as new government is formed and be implemented on top priority basis. He said Samiti will write a letter to Party Chiefs on including a welfare package for endosulfan sufferers in due course of time. In the package it said compensation of 5 lakh and monthly pension of Rs.5000 to be given to each victim. A permanent rehabilitation centre and well equipped free day care centres in five villages should also be announced in their manifestos.
Sridhar Gowda also said that all the chairmen of Karnataka cashew Development Corporation who have served the organization must be traced. They are accountable for their act of negligence by aerial spraying of endosulfan during 1982-2000.As a result, they poisoned streams and soil and created an atmosphere of health problems. It is stated that officials from Health Department organised a Health camp recently and declared only 1907 people were endosulfan victims and failed to give proper answer for the queries aired by us for the rest of the victims.
He demanded to publish the details of health camp and names of the people who have been declared as affected by endosulfan. Though facilities like smart card, ambulance service and mobile hospital to help the endosulfan victims were announced long back, these facilities still remained on the paper and are yet to be implemented he said. Endo Virodhi Horata Samiti said it has got no other option other than to stage a protest and parade victims of endosulfan in front of Vidhana Sabha once the new government is formed in the month of May’13 to bring awareness of the facts and to bring the attention of government. Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Youth Wing, District President, Mohammad Musin and Akhila Bharatha Vidyarthi Parishat State Secretary K.Ramesh were present in the meet.
