Mangalore, Sept 12: Trade union leaders and street vendors celebrated their victory of approval of the Street vendors Protection Act 2012 in the LokSabha. They gathered in front of the DC office on Thursday, September 12 under the guidance of the Dakshina Kannada District unit of the CITU to celebrate the occasion.
District General Secretary of CITU Vasanth Achari said, “The passing of the act is a conquest for the street traders for their years of struggle”.
Expressing his happiness over the passing of the Act which gave life to the street vendors, he also anticipates for drinking water and bank loan facilities to the sellers. MLA J.R. Lobo should look after over providing facilities to the vendors. At the same time he remembered the days when Police department and Mangalore City Corporation were cruel to the street vendors, who looked a number of difficulties in the name of Operation Tiger.
Honourable president of CITU Sunil Kumar Bajal, Musthafa, Imthiyaz, Santhosh Kumar and other members of CITU and the street vendors participated in the programme.
