Moodbidri: Young Moodbidri journalist dies in accident

Moodbidri, Feb 21: In a tragic incident, a young reporter of a Kannada TV channel, based in Davangere passed away in an accident at Chikmagalur on Thursday February 21.

Sanath Bhat (23), a resident of Kadalakere here is the deceased.

Sources said that the accident occured on Chikmagalur-Kadur road when an Alto car rammed into the bike he was riding. He was on his way to his hometown.

The driver of the Alto car is said to have fled the spot.

Sanath who was critically injured was rushed to a hospital but breathed his last on the way.

He was the son of Jayaram and Jyothi Bhat, both teachers by profession. He has an elder sister who is married. His father is the headmaster of St Ignatius Higher Primary School, Kadalakere.

Sanath joined TV9 news channel in Davangere as a reporter about six months ago.

He was a former student of Alva’s College, Moodbidri where he did his graduation, and SDM College, Ujire from where he completed his masters in mass communication and journalism.

In 2011, he had conceptualized the Kannada video album ‘Doora Teera Yana’ with six songs, featuring students and lecturers of Alva’s Education Foundation. It was the first commecial album of its kind in Kannada by students.

Among his impotant reports was a documentary on the plight of the Gouli people in the backward Yellapur region.
