Mangalore, August 30: Due to rot disease and yellow leaves farmers become scared and government is not responding the problems of areca nut growers. Hence, being an opponent party, government’s attention dragging programme must be done and government must provide the special package to areca nut growers, said former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.
Addressing the media persons regarding the areca nut rots problem that when there was BJP government, we used to give the loans to the farmers in the 0 interest and provided the medicine to spay to the disease. But, present government is not taking any action about areca nut growers. Hence, to build the self confidence in the farmer and to help them, research has been done by visiting the Bantwal, Belthangadi, Sullia, Kaapu and other palces.
He further said that congress government must give the solution of Rs. 5000 and must waive the debt and should provide special package. If the government did not respond, we will intensify a movement, he warned.
Former Deputy Chief Minister K. S. Eshwarappa said that the problem occurred like tsunami to the farmer and they must get the solution in the tsunami speed. ’In before farmers were asking help for loss, but now whole garden got damage. Regarding the issue agriculture minister is not giving any response and chief minister gave assurance, but not taken any action. Now, the minister himself must visit the spot and solution won’t solve the problem, rather than special package must be given’, he urged the government.
