Puttur, August 20: Farmers are suffering from areca nut rots problem and yellow disease, hence, government must understand the problem of district farmers and must provide scientific solutions, otherwise, through the organisation we will intensify strong movement, said Karnataka State Farmers Association state convener Y. B. Mallikarjuna.
He was speaking in the protest urging for drop the debt of farmers, who were suffered from areca nut rot problem and urged to release the special package and implement the Dr. Gorak singhs report, he said that law says to give Rs 2000 for each areca nut plant as solution, but government gives only Rs. 200 to Rs 300 and there is fear of farmers will be bankruptcy. Hence, district MPs must present the issue in front of union government, he said.
Karnataka state farmers association vice president K. N Manjunatha Gowda said that when farmers come to say their problems, Puttur sub divisional officials closed the door with the help of police and it is the symbol of slavery. We are addicted of protest, rather than we came to inform the problem of farmers, he said.
MLA Shakunthala Shetty visited the spot and said that even she is from farmers’ background and she knows the pain of farmers.’ I have focused the issue to the government and soon meet will be called to take proper action’. After the survey, I will present the report in front of government and will discuss the issue, she assured.
