Karkala; August 04: It was just a 10 cents land with tiny house. In front of the house at the backyard a small hand -made garden with different types of plants, not one or two to count but exactly 120 types of plants in such a small place and all the plants are of with medical properties of their own.
In fact it is nowhere in unknown place but in the small garden of Diwakar Tendulkar, hereditary doctor, a resident of Kukkundur village in Karkala taluk, near Siddivinayak extension.
Diwakar Tendulkar alias Diwakar Kumar from Kukkundur is a B Com graduate. He along with his agricultural activities, was also proficient in other activities besides being a hereditary doctor of native drugs(indigenous medicines)
Because of his popularity in the locality, he was being fondly called as ‘Pandith’, a doctor of native drugs. With his herbal medicines, native drugs all the minor disorders, sickness were disappearing within no time.
It is in fact, very surprise to see that Diwakar, in his only 10 cents land cultivated Ayurvedic plants, Vegetable plants and fruits plants. For the treatment of one or other diseases in our daily life, we can choose plants and roots from this wonder garden.
For the use of hereditary medicines, he has cultivated in his garden two varieties of holy basil (Tulasi),drumstick,hennaplants,turmeric,Madhunashini,Majjigesoppu,KirathaKaddi,Amrithaballi,Apamarga,Hippali,Vishamunguli,Chakrani,betelleaves,Sihimadhruphala,Kodasiga,Kumari,HandiGadde,MuddeGenasu,Volledhakodi,Eshwaraberu,Vitaminleaf,Nirvisha,panchapathra,Sambarballi,Bringaraja,Nelanelli,Ilikivi,Kepala,Lavancha,Karibevu,,ondhelaga,chagthesoppu,Thumbe.Besides three varieties of spinach,Alasande,Sorekaayi,2 types of sweet potato, snake gourd,thonde kaayi,thorny cucumber,Kesu,Coriander,Basmati, 5 types of chilly plants,vegetables,papaya,seethaphala,banana plants,Guvaya ,mango,jackfruit,pineapple, twelve varieties of dasavala,jaji,Jasmine(3types) makharandha,Parijatha,12 types of croton,ratnagandhi,Gantehoo,cup and saucer, 4 types of abballige 2 types of sevanthige,2 types of sadapushpa,Muthumallige,cactus,daffodil, three varieties of Gondehoo etc..
In view of creating awareness about hereditary system he is also organizing seminars, conferences in taluk level in Karkala, Udipi, Kundapur, Sullia and Bantwal taluk .Presently he is serving as vice president, Karnataka hereditary doctors Parishath and represented in international level sammelan held in Bangalore and Bhopal.
In today’s modern mechanical life for minor disorders like cold, cough etc it is better to use herbal medicines for good health rather than approaching doctors, he said.
