Shivaraj Kumar’s tribute to Basaveshwara

Bangalore,March.21: Sandalwood superstar Shivaraj Kumar paid tribute to the 12th century Indian philosopher and social reformer Basaveshwara during his visit to London on 19th March 2016.

His wife Mrs. Geeta Shivaraj Kumar and daughters Nivedita and Niroopama also accompanied him.

On behalf of the Basaveshwara Foundation, the Former Mayor of Lambeth Dr Neeraj Patil welcomed the Sandalwood star and his family.

Shivanna, as Shivaraj Kumar is fondly known said, he was extremely delighted to pay tribute to a Kanada poet “ Basavanna” along the bank of river Thames overlooking the British Parliament.

Dr Patil and members of Kannada community later on took him and his family on a special tour of the British Parliament.

The Basaveshwara statue was unveiled in the London Borough of Lambeth by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on 14th Nov 2015.

This is the first conceptual statue to be approved by the British Government in the vicinity of the British Parliament as a mark of respect to the Indian Philosopher. Basaveshwara promoted democratic ideals and gender equality during the 12th century.
