MCC asked to provide night accommodation facility to homeless destitutes within city’s jurisdiction at Sharavu and Urwa Samudhaya Bhavana.

Mangalore, July 22: It has been decided in the meeting held on July 22, Monday under the presidentship of N Prakash DK Deputy commissioner to undertake the responsibility of providing night shelter to destitutes with in city limit as a part of poverty eradication programme within three months at Sharavu and urwa Samudhaya Bhavan.

DC has also said a detailed discussion with concerned department officials and NGOs to improve the quality of the work in this regard and expedite the projects.

Blue print for the construction of accommodation with all the basic facilities at Kasabha Bazar Bunder was submitted in the meeting and the same has been approved in the meeting.So far Suvarana Karnataka organization was undertaking the sub-contract works from Leed and implementing NGOs, it is informed

Immediately after the expiry of this contract period, it was decided in the meeting that MCC has been given three months’ time to carry out the works by utilizing the facilities of Poverty eradication scheme.

Asha Nayak, President, children and family welfare association has said in her speech that presently by exploiting the rights of children, they are being made to beg in the public and misused, in this context with the help of police and by keeping constant touch with children and family welfare department, strigent measures to be adopted to stop this inhumane practice for ever, she stressed.

Arun Furtado, Zilla Samaj welfare officer said in his speech that beggars to be trained after admitting to the beggar’s centers after consulting with respective training centres and arrangement to be made for the marketing of the finished goods prepared by the beggars. DC has promised that all possible help would be extended.

DC has informed that any changes, rectification and amendments if needed will be done in the next monthly progress review meeting.

Sharana Basappa, Asst.director, civil and food supplies department, Sreekanth, commissioner MCC, NGO officials and MCC officials were present in the meeting.
