Mangalore, July 19: A strange case of theft has been reported in the exclusive tiles and sanitary ware showroom of PC Mallappa & Co, situated near Highland hospital, Falnir Road.
Sources said that burglars might have gained an entry inside the building after breaking the shutter lock from the rear side but there were no sign of any damage whatsoever as the burglars easily broken the lock.
It was reported that several boxes of expensive Jaguar Wall Mixer 3-in-1 (System with provision for both hand shower and overhead shower) and cash of Rs 50,000/=were stolen from the showroom on July 18, Thursday night.
The incident came to light when the staff opened the store at 9 am on July 19, Friday morning and was observed several boxes of wall mixtures each costing over Rs 3,000/were stolen along with Rs 50,000/=cash, which was the closing balance of the previous day collection. The total loss is estimated Rs one lac.
According to the showroom manager’s statement more than 15 CC cameras are in place at exit and inside the showroom but the device is directly connected to the main switch. Besides we also put off the main switch before closing the showroom.
Police sources said that all the CC cameras have recorded clippings only till 8 pm and there are no other video records.
However staff of the showroom suspect that theft may be the handiwork of the people, who knew the showroom well.
The thieves decamped only with expensive wall mixers, leaving behind empty boxes from the first floor, where the entry is restricted to customers even during business hours.
The police have inspected the spot and registered a case.
