MANGALORE: Mangalore police on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping and robbing an elderly woman at Saripalla. The accused has been identified as Nagesh from Chikkaballapur
The accused on Sunday night entered the house of the 69-year-old woman and raped her at knife point. After the heinous act, he robbed the victim of her gold jewellery before fleeing.
The accused was in a drunken stupor when he committed the act, police said. For the past six months, Nagesh, a centering worker, was living at the site where the woman’s daughter is constructing a new house.
The woman was staying in another house a little away from the daughter’s house.
Police said since the accused had threatened the victim, she did not raise an alarm. She, however, managed to raise an alarm after the accused fled from the house with her ornaments and Rs 5,500 in cash.
The accused has still not been produced before the police. The victim has lodged the complaint at the police station. Police arrested the accused with the help of locals
