Runway in Mangaluru International Airport soon to be extended by 2,000 feet.

Mangaluru, December 17:  The Dakshina Kannada district administration has submitted a proposal to the State government on extension of Mangaluru International Airport runway by 2,000 feet which is much expected and most necessary on part of the state and Karavali region.

A meeting was recently organized in Mangaluru with participation of the Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Minister Abhaychandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, and Airport director JT Radhakrishna, and was decided to write to the state government to provide land necessary for the run way extension. The unanimous decision expressed in the meeting was sent through a proposal to the state government.

Prior to this, the state chief secretary arrived at the airport and responded positively for the need of extension of the runway by 2,000 feet.

The present run way in the airport is 8,000 feet; for which by adding 2,000 feet the run way length would increase to 10,000 feet. For this, the estimated cost is about 280 to 300 crores.

In the Mangaluru International Airport, the Kolambe area close to the present runway that falls under Kundavara gram panchayat and Adyapadi village; the local panchayat and other officials had before time conducted spot inspection and had submitted report to the state government.
