Mangaluru/Bajpe, December 12: The Bajpe police arrested chain snatchers from near Pumpwell in the city, who were also involved in dacoity and theft in various parts of Mangaluru.
The arrested are identified as Balasubramanya alias Bachu (36), resident of Kodiyalbail; Umesh (48), resident of Thokkotu and Manikanta (32), presently residing in Aliyur, Moodbidre.
The accused are involved in 5 chain snatching cases, one kidnap case and dacioty cases.
The police have confiscated 9 souvreigns of gold, one Honda Activa, and one Maximo tempo from the possession of the accused. The value of the seized items are estimated at Rs 6.50 lakhs, it is said.
The accused were involved in total of six cases such as chain snatching cases in Gurupura, Edapadavu, Kinnigolli, and Chelur in Bantwal; Honda Activa theft from near Beebi Alabi road in Bunder, Mangaluru; kidnap of an old woman from Barebail, Kadri here and dacoity.
Using the stolen red Honda Activa, the accused committed chain theft. After kidnapping an old woman from Barebail, Kadri; the accused had left her gold chain near SEZ.
Under the directions of Panambur ACP Madan Gaonkar, Bajpe police Inspector T D Nagraj, SI Ramesh Hanapura, SI Sukumar, staffs Chandrashekar, Prakash Murti, Ramachandra, Jayananda, Chandramohan, Ramachandra, Bharat, Shashidhar, and Devappa participated in the operation.
