Mangaluru, December 5: If the state government moves ahead with the controversial Yettinahole drinking water project, the state would witness a disaster much bigger than the disaster that took place in Chennai said, Former Union minister B Janardhan Poojary addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here on Saturday December 5th.

Poojary speaking about the controversial Yettinahole project said, on this issue the chief minister has held an all-party meeting and announced that the project would be implemented. A proposal has also been submitted to the union government demanding for 13 hectares of forest land. Opposition party leader Eshwarappa has also supported this project. It clearly shows that, both the government as well as the opposition want to implement the Yettinahole Drinking water project and are taking measures towards this.

Poojary said, in Yettinahole project, the west flowing river would be diverted to the east, and it would cause damage to the Western Ghats. We will also face the same consequences like that of Chennai. The calamity that took place in Chennai shows that such incidents happen because people go against nature. In Chennai there was no channel for water to flow out and it was a man-made disaster. The disaster in Chennai is a lesson for all the cities in the country including us. If people do not learn a lesson witnessing this, they will face serious fury of nature, he said.

In there were 20 lakes Karnataka, but they were filled up with soil to construct markets, university, playgrounds and bus stand. The day is not far away when a disaster similar to that occurred in Chennai may happen in Bengaluru. In case it happens, the effect would be ten times greater than what had happened in Chennai, he said.

When Karnataka the government went forward to give Rs 5 crore as relief to Tamil Nadu, its chief minister Jayalalithaa rejected it. She denied relief funds from other states also. But she has taken relief fund announced by the union government. This is the tax money collected from people across India, including from Karnataka. How can she take that money? Why did not she reject it? queried Poojary.

Condemning the tradition wherein some temples prohibit the entry of women, he said, a woman’s soul is spiritually divine. The government should move forward to stop such kinds of practices. In Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, there are no such practices and anyone can enter freely, he said.

Poojary commented on recent remarks made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat about construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya; and pointed out that BJP had lost power in three states after the demolition of Babri Masjid. This was the consequence that BJP had faced, he said.
