Beltangady, December 4: A man entered the premises of Anganwadi school and allegedly chopped off the hand of an anganwady teacher and later shoot himself dead with a gun.
The incident took place at Mulikar in Dharmasthala here on Thursday December 3rd evening.
The injured teacher is Honnamma (37).
The deceased is identified as Umesh Gowda (41), resident of Neriya.
It is said, Umesh was in love with Honnamma, and had proposed to her few months ago. In the beginning, her family had given their consent, but later cancelled the marriage as they came to know that he was addicted to alcohol, said the sources.
It is said, Umesh on two occasions, had entered into the anganwady school and allegedly attacked Honnamma.
On the evening of Thursday, he came near the anganwady school again armed with a sickle and a rifle. He had allegedly chopped off Honnamma’s hand. Honnamma, who was shocked by the attack, immediately ran inside the anganwady school and locked herself.
Meanwhile, Umesh went to a spot situated at a little distance away and shot himself dead with the rifle.
Injured Honnamma was rushed to a hospital.
A case has been registered by Beltangady police.
