Violence erupts at Uppala during BJP victory march, 6 injured, vehicles damaged; bundh called today.

Kasargod, November 9: Six persons including two police were injured due to stone pelting after fight erupted during the victory procession of BJP at Uppala in the district on Sunday November 8th. Police had to burst tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and to bring the situation under control.

In protest against this, Traders Association of Uppala has given a bandh call on Monday November 9th. The police have beefed up security in and around the town.

In the recent election for the local bodies at Uppala, BJP emerged as victorious. When the victory procession reached Uppala town, stones were pelted, which then turned into violence. The police initially used batons to control the violence. But when the situation seemed to go out of control, they burst eight rounds of teargas shells. A gang pelted stones at some vehicles and shops. Three vehicles were damaged in this incident.

Policemen from Manjeshwar and Kumble rushed at the spot. A police team led by Kumble police circle inspector, Suresh Babu, has camped at Uppala and is keeping a close watch on the situation.

The injured are Raveendran, and Omana Kuttan, both constables of Manjeshwar police station, Muslim Youth League activists, Muhammed Shariff, Abdul Rahiman, and Yuva Morcha activst, Uday from Heroor. The injured are admitted to a hospital.
