Clash in Mangaluru sub-jail: ADGP Kamal Pant visits jail, conducts enquiry.

Mangaluru, November 3: ADGP and IGP (prisons) Kamal Pant visited the sub-jail and conducted enquiry on Tuesday November 3rd.

A major clash broke out in the sub-jail between two gangs yesterday resulting in double murder of two inmates, Madoor Isubu and his associate Ganesh Shetty.

Kamal Pant speaking to the media representatives later said, he had come to conduct enquiry in the jail and has examined where and how the incident took place. Discussions were also held with the police, jail officials, staff and inmates. This issue has been taken up very seriously, he said.

Detailed enquiry will be done into how weapons came into the jail, and the intention behind it. Internal enquiry is going on. He said he had spoken with the police commissioner yesterday and even today he would hold a meeting with him. Mysuru jail superintendent Anand Reddy has also been asked to probe the incident, he said.

Pertained to reports about an inmate, named Mohammed Basheer, who was said to be missing from the jail; he said, Basheer is not missing, he is inside the jail. During attendance, there it was observed that was one inmate was less, but he was found later. He was just hiding due to fear after yesterday’s incident, he said.

When queried whether any official or staff was involved in the clash as alleged, he said, if any official or jail staff is found to be involved, stringent action will be taken and he will be made an accused in the murder case.

Regarding CCTVs in the jail, he said, there are no CCTVs in the old jail building. In this budget, a proposal has been placed for additional CCTVs for jails, he said.
