Mangaluru, October 22: Dakshina kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim inaugurated 10 kw solar power grid installed on the rooftop of the residence of MLC Ivan D’Souza in Valencia on Wednesday October 21st.
DC Ibrahim speaking on this occasion lauded MLC Ivan D’Souza and stressed the need for renewable sources of energy. He said, in coastal areas, there are plenty of opportunities to make the best use of solar energy. The MESCOM must educate the public’s on utilizing of solar power which is renewable. He also said that others should also try to make the best use of solar energy.
MLC Ivan D’Souza said, during his recent visit to Boston and New York, he had seen solar panels installed on the roofs of many houses and hence he decided to use the solar energy. In this campaign, presently 31 people have come forward to install solar panels on their rooftops. The installed panel will provide 5 units per day. He also informed that banks are providing loans for people to install solar panels.
District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, MCC commissioner Dr H N Gopalkrishna, MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, and were present on the occasion.
This solar panel of 10kw was installed the roof of MLC Ivon D’Souza’s house at a cost of Rs 8lakhs which generates about 40 watt power daily. The excessive power remained after usage at home will be purchased by MESCOM that will yield about Rs 7,000 per month.
