Mangaluru, October 8: The Vishwa Hindu Parishat(VHP) district unit expressed objection to the demand placed by a mosque for a part of the land in Nandigudda crematorium to use as a grave yard for the Muslim community.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday October 8th, VHP secretary Gopal Kuthar said, the crematorium situated in Nandigudda is of 2.58 acres. Out of this land, 26 cents have been sought by Noorul Islam Madrasa and Moideen Juma Masjid and they have approached MLA Mohiuddin Bava and the deputy commissioner with the application requesting to grant the crematorium land. Objections were raised after VHP came to know about it. It is a Hindu burial ground and none has the right to ask any portion of its land. Hence, the demand was rejected by the administration, he said.

But, despite the rejection, the mosque committee again approached the Mangaluru sub-divisional commissioner and submitted the application for grant of crematorium land. The portion of the land (bearing survey no 251/1) demanded by the mosque also consists tombs of famous leaders of the Hindu community like Kudmul Ranga Rao and leaders of Brahma Samaj. Most of the residents around the crematorium also have rejected the demand, he said.

The district administration is supposed to issue a public notification inviting objections, but that was not done. The government has been saying that objections have been invited from public, but no such notification is put up in the village accountant’s office. The additional DC had fixed a date for land inspection and informed the same to the mosque and the villagers, but VHP and complainant Dinesh Kateel Pai have not received any notice pertained to this matter.

He warned that in case the land is given to Muslims, it would lead to riots, and said VHP demands cancellation of the application from the mosque. On October 11th, the VHP will hold a procession from Attavar to Nandigudda crematorium where a protest meet will be held, said Gopal Kuthar.
