MANGALORE: CPI leaders have said that the state budget, which the Congress government is scheduled to present in the state assembly later this month, should be pro-people.

The party’s undivided Dakshina Kannada district unit president P Sanjeeva said that people, who are fed up of corruption and anti-people policies of the BJP government, have chosen a new government with the expectations of a pro-people administration.

Speaking at a pre-budget awareness meet held near deputy commissioner’s office here on Monday, he said, “The government should hold meetings of farmers and labour organizations to seek suggestions before presenting the budget. Initiatives should be taken to vacate encroached government land and distribute it among the poor. Funds reserved for SC/ST communities should not be diverted for other development works. A pension of Rs 3,000 per month should be distributed to farmers and coolie workers,” he said.

On mining scam, Sanjeeva said that the exchequer’s loss in mining scam should be recovered from those who are involved in the case.
