Suratkal, October 1: Nagarika Horata Samithi staged a huge protest on Wednesday, September 30th, against the collection of fares in toll booth on the National Highway near Mukka.
The protesters declared that at any cost they would not give any chance for toll collection which would publicly loot money from the vehicle users.
Led by Nagarika Samithi president Subashchandra Shetty, this protest was organized claiming that basic facilities were not provided and the move taken for collection was illegal.
As per the norms of highway Authority of India for toll collection, adequate place is required in the spot for facilities such as six lanes toll collection booths, rest rooms, toilet, parking area for the heavy vehicles. But all these norms are seen violated here which is said to be the reason for strong opposition.
In the past, protest was staged here against the construction of toll gates. But the company had taken permission from the court for the construction of toll gates here and the work was undertaken with police protection. Once again protest has been staged here and the drivers of car, and rickshaw drivers, publics and several organizations have joined this protest.
MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava, MLC Ivon D’Souza, deputy mayor Purushottam Chitrapura, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai and others participated in this protest.
