Mangaluru, September 22: The Mangaluru City Corporation has decided to conduct a study on swimming pools in Bengaluru in connection to the overall development of the twenty eight year old swimming pool located in Mangala Stadium here.
This was discussed in a review meeting on development programs by the MCC was organized on Monday, September 21st near the swimming pool presided over by Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred with the ministers, corporators, Deputy Commissioner and officials.
Renovation of the old mosaic tiles around the swimming pool and changing it at a cost of Rs 25 lakhs, public toilet block construction at a cost of Rs 15 lakhs and repair works of the leaking roof were proposed by the officials during the meeting. It was decided that pertained to the overall development of the swimming pool, a delegation from MCC would visit Bengaluru to study on the swimming pools there and submit a report.
Grants are fixed at a cost of Rupees two crores for expansion of MCC main building and renovation and at a cost of rupees one crore for the development of Alake and Kavoor market. Estimation list has been prepared for development of Suratkal sub office building at a cost of Rs 2.25 crores, informed the officials during the meeting.
New proposal of Rs 92 lakhs for Town hall approved:
Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred informed that the Town hall renovation works will be completed by the end of October and will be handed over to the public use on November 1st. For installation of CCTV cameras outside the Townhall, tarring the roads, fixing the interlocks, drainage and other works, new proposal of Rs 92 crores was approved in the meeting.
MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapura, Corporators Deepak Poojary, Harinath, Sashidhar Hegde, Lancy Lott Pinto, Kehsav Maroli, MCC Commissioner H N Gopalkrishna, Superintendent Engineer Shivshankar Swamy, Executive Engineers Rajshekar, and Lingegowda were present during the meeting.
Drainage and footpath construction:
In order to construct drainage and footpaths in the main streets of the city within three months, it was decided to call for a meeting to soon discuss on this.
Deep drainages are situated close to the educational institutions located on the main streets in the city. The parents feel scared to send their little children to schools. Without addressing the drainage, and footpath problem; it is not good to carry other developmental works, said corporator Premananda Shetty.
Deputy Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in foot path construction although there is no problem for funds in MCC. He asked to convene a MCC meeting immediately and decide about the works aiming to complete it in three months.
