More awareness must be created on drug abuse: IGP Amrit Paul

Mangaluru, September 18: A one-day seminar on ‘Drug abuse among children’ was jointly organized by the department of criminology and forensic science, Roshni Nilaya College and the Mangaluru police department on Friday September 18th, at Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, Mangaluru.

The program was inaugurated by Amrit Paul IGP (western range).

Before the seminar, ‘Forensic Exhibition-2015’ organised by the criminology department of Roshni Nilaya was inaugurated by IGP Amrit Paul.

Addressing the gathered, IGP Amrit Paul said, the young generation just want to experience the drugs once and do not want to get addicted to it. But if one tries it once, they will become addicted to it forever. It is said that the drugs are being smuggled from Pakistan, he said.

There are various kinds of dangerous drugs such as, cocaine, opium, brown sugar, ganja etc. If a person is addicted to drugs once they will stay away from all the activities, he said.

Walter D’Mello, DDPI of Dakshina Kannada said, in the recent day’s even high school students are also getting addicted to drugs. A lot of behavioural changes are noticed in high school children. Awareness programmes on this issue should be organized at the primary level, he said.

On this occasion, Superintendent of Police Dr SD Sharanappa released a book ‘Crime Reflection’, a book brought out by the department of criminology and forensic science of Roshni Nilaya.

Prof B M Madhav of department of research, Dr Sophia Fernandes, Principal of Roshni Nilaya College, Dr Lakshmi Narayan- Registrar were present among others.
