Mangaluru, September 9: It is reported that Heavy Explosion sound was heard from the Coke-Sulphur unit in MRPL located at Jokatte, outskirts of Mangaluru. This had caused the local residents to panic for quite some time.
Loud noise was heard from inside the Coke –Sulphur unit at around 9pm on Tuesday September 8th causing anxiety among the local residents. Initially, news was spread that some explosion had taken place in the unit. This caused much anxiety among the locals.
As much fire than usual was witnessed in the smoke pipe of MRPL and also the power had went off suddenly at the same instant, the locals were frightened very much.
Such noise is common do not panic: MRPL Chief Laxmi Kumaran
“Such sounds are common during the production of petroleum products. In addition, due to power cut the area was dark. The public’s need not get frightened over this” said the Senior Official of MRPL Laxmi Kumaran to the news media.

Please rest assured there has been no explosion in MRPL.
There has been a break down in power supply because of which there is a black out and the trapped gases are being pushed out and hence the flare is larger than usual)
