Bantwal, September 3: In connection to the recent incident in which a man was brutally murdered by a gang, the Vittal police arrested an auto rickshaw driver on Wednesday September 2nd.
The arrested man has been identified as Iqbal alias Ikku (24) from Poyyagadde in Kanyana. He is produced in the court.
The gang, alleged as ‘Nappate Rafiq Gang’ from Paivalike in Kerala, murdered Asif with machete and seriously injured another. After the attack, the gang had escaped in the auto rickshaw operated by Iqbal, as the car in which they had arrived got stranded at the crime spot after its front tyre was punctured.
Police arrested Iqbal on the charges of helping the murder-accused to escape. It is said that the auto-driver was threatened by the accused, who were brandishing sharp weapons, to take them away to a far away spot.
In the past, Iqbal was arrested in connection to a case in which he had been accused of abducting and raping a minor girl, said the police. Later he had secured bail, it is learnt.
