Udupi, September 2: Good response was witnessed across Udupi district to the Bharat Bundh call on Wednesday, September 2nd; given by the Labour’s Union.
Buses remained off the roads in Udupi, Kundapur, Byndoor, Kaup, Karakla and other places. As the private taxies and auto rickshaws too suspended their service and remained off the roads, the passengers had to face inconveniences to reach their destinations. Holiday was declared to the schools and colleges.
The Lorries and trucks were stopped at some places and asked to support bundh. Most of the shops and business firms had remained closed. The streets bore a deserted look.
The bundh received good response in Kundapur too. Various unions had jointly taken up rally in the town.
While some people were stopping vehicles moving on the National Highway, a miscreant pelted stone and damaged the front shielding glass of car in a bid to stop a car bearing Bengaluru registration number which was moving on the National Highway from Murdeshwar towards Udupi . A tense situation had prevailed after this incident. The police immediately rushed at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Tight police security was deployed.
