Mangaluru, September 2: Mixed response has been witnessed in Dakshina kannada to the Bharat bundh called on September 2nd, by several employees union urging to fulfil their various demands. The normal life has been disrupted as wide support is extended for the bundh in Karavali.
Demanding to address 12 basic problems of the employees in the country, the Central Employees Union has called for a general bundh across the country from 6am to 6pm on September 2nd.
The buses remained off the roads as All India Transport Employees Association has also joined this bundh along with private service, express and city bus employees. The bus commuters suffered great inconveniences in reaching their destinations.
Auto rickshaws were seen operating as usual. The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, had declared holiday for government schools, colleges and aided-schools, hence the students were freed from the problem of public transport system to reach their schools on the day.
People were seen waiting at the bus stands. Some people reached their work places on walk, while others opted to reach by auto rickshaws and also travelled by their own vehicles.
The necessary services such as Drug stores, news papers, milk and others were exempted from bundh.
As the banks, insurances, post, industries sectors have also joined this bundh, it has caused inconveniences to the public’s. In some places, shops and hotels opened their shutters and were engaged in business as usual.
Stones pelted at buses in Padil:
In the early morning today, miscreants pelted stones at three KSRTC buses in Padil while they were moving on the National Highway and have caused damage. The buses arriving from Shamburu to Mangaluru, from Madanthyar to Mangaluru and that plying between Mysuru- Mangaluru were pelted stones. In this stone pelting incident, G S Vamapaty driver of KSRTC bus plying from Shamburu to Mangaluru was seriously injured. The injured has been admitted to a hospital in the city.
Tyres burnt:
Miscreants also burnt tyres at the middle of the roads in Bangra Kulur and Kuttar near Ullal, outskirts of the city and interrupted the vehicular movement.
Tight police security:
As part of the Bharat Bundh, tight police vigil has been deployed across the district to avert untoward incidents.
