Asha workers to stage indefinite stir: State Secretary D Nagalakshmi

Mangaluru, August 28: The Asha workers, suspending their duties will hold protest in September demanding the release of pending matching incentives since the last year by the state government and also the release of endowment funds which are pending since five months, informed the State Secretary D Nagalakshmi.

She spoke at a conference of Karnataka State united Asha Workers Association Dakshina Kannada unit. The stir would continue in each district until the demand gets fulfilled. Along with this it would be pressurized to consider Asha workers as government employees, said Nagalakshmi.

The date of commencement of stir would be decided in the association’s meeting to be held in the first week of next month in Bengaluru. The workers are facing problems as the endowment funds are not given to them since five to six months. Although this was brought to the notice of the government, so far there is no response.  Hence indefinite strike is inevitable, she said.

Chandrakala Nanadavara, former president of the Karavali Writers and Readers Association was the chief guest on this occasion.

Sujata-Association’s President of Mangaluru Taluk, AIUTUC state vice-president K V Bhat, Vidya P, Jayalakshmi- Association’s vice-president of Mangaluru zone, taluk chiefs such as Meenakshi Beltangady, Bhavani Puttur, Ratnavati Sullia, Chandrakala, and Babita were present among others on this occasion.
