Mangaluru, August 26: To construct a dedicated berth for Lakshadweep vessels at the old port at Bender area here, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the government of Karnataka and union territory Lakshadweep on Wednesday August 26th.
Baburao Chinchansur, Minister for Textile and Ports during his visit to the city addressed the media and said, this is the dream project of MLA J R Lobo. I will direct the concerned officials to finish the task within the stipulated time on behalf of the Karnataka government I assure all support and cooperation for this project, he said.
The minister also inspected the old port area here.
P P Mohammed Faisal- MP of Lakshadweep said, I hope that the trade relations between Mangaluru and Lakshadweep enhance through this MoU. I request the minister to make temporary arrangements until the new berth is constructed. There should be temporary wash rooms, waiting lounge etc.
The new jetty will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore on an area of about 8,000 sq ft.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Lakshadweep administrator Rajesh Prasad, port director Captain Mohan, and others were present on this occasion.
